The fastest Nissan GT-R yet, the GT-R Nismo, will be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show later this year. … Testing of the prototype is already underway, and Nissan executive vice president and global boss of product planning Andy Palmer has already driven it. And while reluctant to go into detail about what is on offer, Palmer told: “It’s bloody quick. It will be the fastest GT-R ever.”
An increase in power from the current car’s 543bhp is likely, with Palmer promising: “It will deliver an extra kick.” This is set to reduce the 0-62mph time of 2.7 seconds even further.
There will be styling tweaks, too. “The visual changes will be geared to providing more downforce,” confirmed Palmer. The GT-R will be the halo car for Nissan’s range of Nismo performance models, and Palmer admitted he had a specific target for it. “The production car record for [lapping] the Nurburgring is the gold standard, and we are aiming for that,” he confirmed. Nismo engineers are also putting to use expertise gained in Japan’s Super GT race series while developing the car. *autoexpress
