The year 2016 is seeing a stronger love for the bowtie brand as Chevrolet Philippines revealed its upcoming contender in the country’s largest automotive segment at the Manila International Auto Show 2016 last April 7 at the World Trade Center, Pasay City.
In the midst of live beat box music and entertaining dance tunes, Chevrolet Philippines – The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI), the exclusive importer and distributor of Chevrolet vehicles and parts in the Philippines, unveiled the new Chevrolet Sail subcompact sedan. The preview of the vehicle marked the automaker’s anticipated entry in the local car-B segment.
“The Chevrolet Sail represents the strengths and benefits of GM’s global expertise and proven engineering processes, and we are very excited to introduce it to the Filipinos.” says Atty. Albert Arcilla, President and Managing Director of Chevrolet Philippines. “With the Chevrolet Sail entering the Philippine market, we aim to fulfill every Filipino’s dream of having their first car and their first Chevrolet.”
In an interesting and surprising reveal event at MIAS, which was graced by General Motors International Operations’ General Director, Mr. Tadashi Wakamatsu, the New Sail was officially welcomed to Chevrolet Philippines’ ever-growing product portfolio by more than a hundred flash mob dancers – including TCCCI executives and Chevrolet brand ambassadors, Zoren and Maverick Legaspi – moving to the tune of “Let’s Do The Chevy Sail.”
As Chevrolet Philippines sets a new standard for car previews, the company also aims to set a new standard for the subcompact sedans in the country with the unveiling of the new Chevrolet Sail.
Powered by either a 1.3-liter engine with 5-speed manual transmission or a 1.5-liter engine with 4-speed automatic transmission, the Chevrolet Sail is a third generation entry-level family sedan and is a strong contender in the subcompact sedan segment. Outside, it has a sculpted yet slender exterior and has the brand’s signature dual-port grille design, giving the vehicle a striking and sporty appearance.
The Chevrolet Sail was named by J.D. Power as the Best Premium Compact Car in Initial Quality and Most Appealing Premium Compact Car in China, one of Chevrolet’s major markets, making it one of the best-selling subcompact sedans in the Chinese market. The Sail is also available in countries in Asia and soon in South America, further strengthening the presence of the Chevrolet brand across the globe.
Designed, developed and manufactured leveraging GM’s global processes, the New Chevrolet Sail meets the highest level of quality. It complies with G0 global vehicle durability test standards for road conditions around the world. About 48,000 km of architecture tests, 2.8 million km of simulated road tests, 350,000 km of powertrain tests and 640,000 km of emission tests were carried out.
The Chevrolet Sail is expected to arrive Philippine shores on June 2016.
The Golden Bowtie
Chevrolet’s signature bowtie also took center stage at the Chevrolet Hub. A towering Chevy goldenrod bowtie, that symbolizes Chevrolet’s 105 years of delivering quality products and services in more than 140 countries, lit up the Chevrolet Hub display area to show the brand’s strong presence in the Philippines.
Chevrolet’s magnificent history was displayed on the Heritage Wall, which showcased the bowtie’s evolution – from the original 1913 Chevy bowtie to the current logo that appears on every Chevrolet vehicle on the road today. Along with the logo evolution, some of the brand’s distinctive vintage vehicles like the Corvette, Suburban and Camaro also adorned the Heritage Wall.
The Chevy Strong Model Line-up at the Chevrolet Hub
The Chevrolet Hub featured a heritage-themed Chevy Lounge that offered a special Chevy blend coffee by Yardstick Coffee, free Wi-Fi connectivity and charging stations for Chevy clients and the media. The Chevrolet Hub also featured an interactive area with the Love this Chevy Graffiti Wall and a Chevrolet Social Media Area where Chevrolet freebies are up for grabs. The display was designed to connect with the attendees and to show how the brand continues to Find New Roads.
Apart from the special amenities and display of the new Chevrolet Sail, Chevrolet Philippines also showcased its current flagship models on the 460 square meter Chevrolet Hub.
The Chevrolet Trailblazer remains to be the most powerful in the competitive midsize SUV segment. It offers a 2nd generation Duramax turbocharged engine that underscores its outstanding ride and handling and improved fuel efficiency. The 2.8-liter Trailblazer produces 200hp of power at 3,600 rpm and 500 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm, making it the best in its class. Its classic yet tough and rugged look gives the 7-seater Trailblazer a commanding appeal on the road. Inside, it offers multiple seating configurations for cargo flexibility, making the Trailblazer the perfect vehicle for family adventures.
The Chevrolet Trax city-smart crossover SUV caters to millennials looking for a stylish and powerful ride. The Chevy Trax has a sleek and sporty trim and is loaded with street-smart features and technologies, including the Chevrolet MyLink 7-inch color touchscreen infotainment system with Siri Eyes Free. It is powered by a first-in-its-class 1.4-liter Turbocharged engine, providing superb performance when exploring the city or driving out of town. The Chevrolet Trax is available in two variants – LS and the top-of-the-line LT.
The rock-solid Chevrolet Colorado goes head to head with its competitors with its off-road truck capability, powerful and versatile truck features and dependable performance. The pickup truck has a powerful Duramax turbo-diesel engine that delivers 200 hp and 500 Nm of torque – a best-in-its-class power and torque output.
On display is the newest variant of the Colorado – a 2.8-liter 4×2 with automatic transmission that will be available in Chevrolet dealership stores nationwide this April at Php 1,278,888.00. With the newly added 4×2 Automatic Colorado, the bowtie brand now offers a stronger variant line-up to the growing pickup truck segment.
