Look at that scene-stealer. The Mazda MX-5 RF was amongst new models introduced at the 2017 Manila International Auto Show, and judging by this photo, it was happy to steal some glances from those who came for more anticipated racers like the 5th-gen Civic Type R!
Some car enthusiasts have long been wondering when Mazda would ever build a proper coupe/targa out of the MX-5, not too similar to the hard tops they used to offer with the previous generations. The RF is not an exact coupe but more of a targa, with the rear part of the design only changed where necessary to include the fluid, flowing lines that swoop down from the roof to the sexy trunk lid.
Hard-core MX-5 fans though may not be the exact market for the RF–most of them are religiously loyal to the convertible/soft-top that’s also lighter than the retractable fastback. Yes, that’s exactly what the RF acronym represents.
The RF pushes the price to 2.18 million pesos for the cheaper of two variants, putting it significantly more expensive than the 2017 Toyota 86, which starts at 1.749 million. Then again, the RF is an MX-5, a huge plus for those not a fan of the 86 or just not too happy to have a car that every other boy racer drives.
