No one can deny the inspirational impact that dual gold medalist Carlos Yulo has on the Filipino people, more so towards the aspiring new generation of athletes who are trying to walk the same path. Recently, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) collaborated with the world-renowned Filipino gymnast for their “Start Your Impossible” 2-Day Gymnastics Camp. It was held on November 15-16, 2024 at the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) MVPSF Gym.
The camp was made as a way for Carlos to give back to the community, aiming to inspire and empower young gymnasts by helping and providing them with opportunities to hone their skills.
Toyota’s involvement shouldn’t come as a surprise, given that Yulo is a Global Team Toyota Athlete (GTTA), and both parties are focused on helping out young gymnasts who wish to reach the podium as well someday in the grandest sports stage known as the Olympics. Of course, every skilled athlete always has a reliable mentor by their side, which is why coach Aldrin Castañeda of GAP and the rest of their coaching team were also present at the event.
This activity is part of Yulo’s project under Toyota’s global “Start Your Impossible” program which empowers athletes not only to pursue sports excellence but also to become advocates for social good. For him, he identified championing youth development through sports training opportunities and food security as his advocacies.
Over the course of two days, thirty young gymnasts aged 7-16 from Metro Manila, Davao, and Cebu engaged in three intensive training sessions and activities with the coaching staff and were also advised by sports nutritionist Jeanette Aro.
Carlos stated, “Under Toyota’s Start Your Impossible campaign, I recognize my responsibility as a Dual Hero—to not only compete and win but to uplift and mentor the next generation of athletes. This Gymnastics Clinic we’re embarking on, along with a Nutritional Lecture, is a big step towards this mission.”
“To our young gymnasts here today, our future champions and medalists, congratulations for completing the TOYOTA START YOUR IMPOSSIBLE GYMNASTICS CAMP. You learned from no other than the Philippines’ best gymnast! We hope you remember this experience always!” TMP President Masando Hashimoto shared.
Additionally, three attendees of the camp; Caila, Ysa, and Eauline shared that they enjoyed training with their Kuya Carlos and that this gymnastics camp is a dream come true.
“We learned so much from him, and this will be helpful for us when we have competitions coming up,” Ysa shared. “We dream of going to international competitions and representing the Philippines just like he did,” Caila added.
Overall, such an event can be the stepping stone that young aspirants need to up their game and be future gold medalists like their idol, Carlos Yulo. Yes, honing such skills would take years, but Carlos and Toyota Motor Philippines are always more than ready to give our young athletes hope and support in achieving their dreams of winning gold.
