We’ve previously featured the most insane car, and now this takes the “most beautiful car of 2013” award, said Complex Rides. Stunning is the appropriate word for describing the curvy (all of which serve a purpose) exterior. The fact that it’s a hybrid that can go 217 mph makes our heart start jumping just thinking about it.
MANDELA’S MERCEDES
In honor of the legendary Nelson Mandela, let’s delve on his previous ride. In July 1990, the newly unionized workers at the Mercedes-Benz plant on the east coast of South Africa gave Mandela a labor of love: a red S500. After a meeting between factory management and the workers, it was agreed that Mercedes-Benz would supply the parts and that the workers would donate their time for free. The chassis was inscribed with the South African flag and Mandela’s name, and the W126 rolled through the production line. Mandela’s Mercedes now sits in the Apartheid Museum, retired from duty since 1998.

FASTEST GROCERY CART?
0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds, 186 mph top speed, and an 838 hp twin-turbo V8. Sounds like we’re talking about a new two-seat supercar, right? Nope, we’re talking about this massive station wagon instead. Brabus took the already very impressive Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Wagon and swapped out the stock turbos for some beefier ones, as well as adding a new billet crankshaft, a ton of new forged internals, and bored out the engine from 5.5L to 5.9L in order to add a whopping 261 horsepower and create the Brabus E63 AMG 850. Naturally, the engine is producing 1,069 lb-ft of torque, but Brabus had to electronically limit that to prevent powertrain damage. On the outside, there’s a new aero kit featuring a front splitter and a rear diffuser and the buyer’s choice of 19″or 20″ forged wheels.

HOT CARS… LITERALLY
In one of the most expensive pileups in recent memory, three Lamborghinis (two Gallardos and an Aventador) crashed into each other and caught fire on an expressway in Malaysia recently. The three Lambos were part of a five-car convoy traveling from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur. One driver apparently lost control and hit the guardrail, and the other two didn’t react fast enough to avoid slamming into their comrade. It’s unclear how fast the cars were going, or how close they were to each other when the first one wiped out.
