Price This Car Right: McLaren F1

McLaren_F1_Lead-sm

They say libre ang mangarap, but not when you’re wishing for a supercar.

Recently, a McLaren F1 was sold thru England’s DK Engineering for — wait for it — a cool $10.5 million. Yes, this bright red 1995 supercar that once belonged to Formula 1 driver Michael Andretti has an 8-figure price tag. In dollars.

To put that price tag in perspective, the F1 bowed in 1994, packing a 675-hp BMW V12 and commanding roughly $1 million. Values have soared since the car went out of production, topping out last August at a stupefying $8.75 million. When Road & Track’s Sam Smith drove chassis number 0001 in late 2013, its estimated value was “just” $10 million.

This most recent sale means the cost of entry will only continue to climb, parking the F1 in rarefied company of the Ferrari 250 GTO and 250 Testarossa. To the vast majority of us, that means wishing for an F1 will continue to be about as productive as searching for Bigfoot.

You think this red beast is worth it, mga Kapuso?

Sneak Peek: Batmobile

As much as we’re excited with the next installment of the Batman franchises, gearheads are probably as thrilled to see what the next Batmobile will look like.

Film director Zack Snyder himself recently provided an early look for black-clad superhero’s ride. He also said that the full unveiling of the new Batmobile may be coming soon.

From what we can see in this teaser pic, the silhouette echoes the classic comic book Batmobile’s profile more than any in recent memory, and veers sharply away from the awesome but unusual Tumbler, though threads from that design can be seen as well.

The next installment is made much more exciting, as it is set to pit two of the world’s favorite superheros against each other — Batman vs Superman. Will it be as top-grossing as the recent box office hit, Spiderman? Let’s wait and see.

Dig or Diss: 2015 Mazda MX-5

Miata fans, read on.

The next generation Mazda MX-5 is reported to be revealed by the end of this year, and famous “automotive manipulator” Theophilus Chin has provided a sneak peek on how the sleek car will look.

Miata fans are eagerly waiting for the next generation model set to come out later this year but until then all they have to rely on are spy photos and renders like this one which hopefully will have something in common with the real deal. Most likely not a lot of people will mind if the new MX-5 will look exactly like this one and even if it won’t, we expect Mazda’s Kodo design language to offer a very attractive styling as seen in recent products such as the 6 and 3, as well as the Hazumi concept.

The Japanese marque announced its intentions of getting back to Miata’s roots for the next-gen model which is why it will be smaller and lighter compared to the outgoing model. It will actually go through a considerable 100+ kg (220 lbs) diet and is going to adopt a lower center of gravity. The vehicle will also be more powerful and will feature a more rigid body that will also make it safer in case of a collision.

So what do you think, mga Kapuso? Let’s hope the local arm of Mazda here will also give Filipinos a chance to ride on this hot car.
