WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!

We’ve wanted to start the year with something very cool: a coffee machine inspired by the engine of a Formula 1 car. Called Espresso Veloce Serie Titanio V12, the new coffee machine is made from race-ready materials like titanium, aluminum and stainless steel. The V12 coffee machine will be limited to only 500 units and is priced at about $16,500. Next to the V12 version, the guys over Espresso Veloce are also offering a V8 and a V10 engine, plus a Serie Carbonio Nero black carbon-fiber version for all three of them. The new coffee machine is made from more than 90 precision components machined from solid billets, while the “exhaust pipes” are made from titanium and deliver the coffee into stainless steel ’piston’ cups’. What’s even cooler is that the tips are blued with heat – just like you see on the racing car’s exhaust systems. All the other elements of the coffee machine are made using high-grade aerospace alloys, similar to those used in contemporary Grand Prix engines.

Ferrari is known for its fiery red color, but apparently, its black version ain’t bad either. Spotted in Monaco is Ferrari’s flagship V12 hypercar finished in Nero Daytona black. However, Monaco being Monaco, that was not the only one to be seen. Within mere minutes of the Nero car leaving, another Rosso car was seen, meaning at least two of the 350+ km/h cars are in Monaco!

Amid Jaguar, BMW, Porsche, McLaren and even Ferrari, one car stood out for the Top Speed team and was voted their car of the year: the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. Launched in 2013, the car sports a revised 6.2-liter V-8 that puts out up to 460 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. Being a Corvette, power goes to the rear wheels via an all-new, seven-speed manual transmission.

WATCH OUT FOR THIS CAR TECH

Mercedes-Benz is providing a glimpse of one potential technology that enables greater connectivity between the driver and his or her car. The technology is a wrist watch that connects with a car through the internet and provides feedback on vehicle diagnostics and other vehicle-related notifications. Developed by Pebble Technology, the watch connects with Mercedes’ existing Digital DriveStyle app and serves as a simultaneous transmitter and receiver of information. For example, when away from their vehicle, Mercedes drivers wearing the watch can review important vehicle information at a glance like fuel level, door-lock status, and vehicle location. When the car is on the road, the watch can alert the driver of real-time hazards through existing Car-2-Car technology, such as accidents, road construction, or stalled vehicles by simply vibrating.
